MOPS INTERNATIONAL

“…shine like stars in the universe.”  Phillipians 2:15

MOPS International was founded in 1973 and has grown to thousands of chapters all over the world.  Its purpose is “to nurture every mother of preschoolers by meeting her distinct needs to the glory of Jesus Christ.”  It is a non-denominational Christian organization, but all mothers of preschoolers are welcome, regardless of religious beliefs.

MOPS is fun! It gives mothers of preschoolers the chance to meet with other moms in the same stage of life.  There’s time to socialize and have something to eat.  A talk is presented that relates to life as MOPS, then we meet in small groups to discuss the topic further.  We also do a craft, something we can start, do and finish all in the same sitting. (Really, I’m not kidding!)

MOPS International (MI) has a yearly fee for all moms.  It is an awesome ministry for all moms, but the best way to benefit is to work part-time or be a stay-at-home mom, because most meetings are held during the day. (Ours are Thursday mornings, but there are groups that meet in the evening or on weekends, so check www.mops.org for help finding a group that fits your schedule). The MOPS to MOM Connection is a way for MI to reach all moms outside of the meetings. You get great discounts and the MOMSense magazine (it’s like a mini-MOPS meeting) delivered to your home.  This also gives moms who can go to the meetings a chance to sponsor a mom who works full-time outside the home by giving her the connection.  (Ask for details if interested.)

Check out the MOPS website.  You can get the most updated information about what is going on.  Take a look at our MOPS Shop.  Yes, we even have our own area to do some shopping, from mugs, pens and Emory boards to literature of all kinds.  Look at some of the links; you will want to look at the Hearts at Home website, another great ministry for women.

Tuition

The tuition for our group is $5.00 per meeting per mom.  Finance should never be a reason you are unable to attend MOPS. This group is for all women.  We have scholarships donated to help when needed.  Our finance team leader will be ever so gracious to assist you.

In addition, MOPS International has a fee of $20.00 per mom for the year.  If you are moving in from or to another group during the year, is it transferable.  You may choose how you want to pay.  You may pay all the fees at once, you may pay at each meeting or you can break it up over the year.

MOPPETS

This is the name given to the children that are brought by MOPS moms.

They also are ministered to during this time.  We have very dedicated, loving, Christian volunteers who care for our children during the morning. MOPPETS range in age from birth to kindergarten.

Children are discouraged from being in the area of the meeting.  Even happy cooing sounds are disruptive to the moms who really need the quiet time MOPS offers. That said, understand that no one frowns on the feeding of young infants in the meeting area when necessary.

The activities and facilities have been arranged according to the child’s age and development.  It is very important for safety reasons that your child remain in the classroom that is set up for his/her age.

Good Shepherd has a paging system. When you sign in your child, please take a pager, write the pager number on the name tag of your child. If for any reason the

caregivers need you, they will page you. If you have children in more than one room, the pagers have a display on the front that will show a number and that number will represent each classroom individually.
